Can you feel it, friends? Warmer days are just around the corner and we couldn't be more excited! We're already dreaming of lazy summer days on the river, hikes through Zoar State Forest, crab pickin’ by the water at Three Rivers Seafood, strolls through historic downtown West Point, and much, much more. And while we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer for summer, that’s not stopping us from enjoying all of the amazing experiences #WPKW (that’s West Point + King William for our new friends) has to offer in the spring.
Downtown West Point
West Point's historic tree-lined Main Street is home to boutique and antique shops such as The Exchange on Main and Divin' Off the Dock, the popular home furnishings store Wyatt-Ogg, as well as local eateries where you can find some of the best seafood this side of 95—The Blue Crab of WP and Three Rivers Seafood (both offer outside dining opportunities with views of our quaint Main Street and the Mattaponi River). For fresh donuts, specialty coffee, delicious ice cream, and old fashioned lunch counter favorites, make sure you check out The Lazy Cow Ice Cream Parlor. Visitors to downtown West Point also enjoy taking in the architecture of our historic buildings, churches, and homes that include period representatives from the Victorian Italianate, Queen Anne, and Gothic Revival architecture styles, as well as Sears mail-order houses. At the end of Main Street, you can take in breathtaking river views at Beach Park, where the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers meet to form the York. While we think downtown West Point is beautiful all year, it is especially lovely in the spring with the budding trees and flowers that adorn Main Street.
Weekend Getaway
With miles of peaceful countryside that lead to boutiques and attractions, nearby wineries and breweries, a quaint downtown shopping and dining district with river views, King William County and the Town of West Point offer the perfect opportunity for a weekend getaway. From historic plantation homes to riverfront vacation rentals, our region has just the right place for you to relax and enjoy a peaceful escape. Check out a sample list of places to stay in #WPKW: North Point Plantation, Grateful Meadows, Aylett River Paradise, 403 Main by Lucky Duck Retreats, or Waterfront Retreat on the Mattaponi.
The Great Outdoors
If the tranquility of nature is calling your name, King William County offers multiple ways to get outside. Whether its hiking, paddling, biking, horseback riding, golf, fishing, or simply relaxing in the fresh air, there’s an experience for any outdoor lover. King William County features Zoar State Forest, Sandy Point State Forest, and Queenfield Golf Club, and West Point offers opportunities for fishing, paddling, and relaxing at Glass Island, the Riverwalk, and Beach Park. Pro tip—if you plan to enjoy water activities such as paddling, be sure to protect yourself against cold water. The West Point Paddler’s Guide offers safety tips and suggestions for paddling around West Point’s waterways.
